Pharos famae naufragantis

  • First performance: 1730, Prague – New Town, the lowest grammar class (principistae)
  • Author: Antonius Machek, SJ (1705–1760)

In the allegorical play Lighthouse of the Drowning Reputation, John of Nepomuk appears in the form of John’s Love (Joanneus Affectus), who liberates unjustly condemned Innocent Reputation (Innocentiae Fama) from prison, defending it against Libel (Calumnia), Lie (Mendacium) and Envy (Invidia). At the same time, John’s Love restores freedom and reputation to the Offender (Reatus), who was earlier forced to help Libel. More info in Czech
